How to still get SMS reminders in Google Calendar

Google Calendar used to provide 3 options for calendar notifications: alerts (popups) on your phone, emails and texts. They took away the option to send text alerts a few months ago but we found a way around it.

 

You’ve probably already mastered ‘filters’ on your Gmail account.  Here’s how we used this feature to receive SMS reminders:

  1. Create a calendar invite (set to the future)
  2. Specify email notification to be sent X minutes before the start time
  3. Create a filter on your inbox (e.g. johnsmith@gmail.com)
  4. Filter rule:
    Matches: from:(calendar-notification@google.com)
    Do this:  Forward to YourNumber@txt.att.net
